@Sarkosiaunbound @mtaibbi Precedent is definitely a factor, but I suspect that it is the American free-speech culture, more than the case law, and even the language in the First Amendment, that is the major obstacle to the new censorship machine. If that culture is weakened, Katy bar the door.

@mtaibbi It would be useful to hear legal experts discuss how the First Amendment, which also has limits, differs from European free speech protections, and how much of an obstacle to the new censorship machine it actually poses. E.g., here's Article 5 of the German constitution.

I don’t think people realize how big of an obstacle the First Amendment is to neoliberal plans for social control worldwide. Our law is unique , and undermining it is a priority for this authoritarian movement
