More recently the federal government invested heavily in censorship programs to go with surveillance, domestic intel collection, black budgets, etc. The government needs slashing. It provides lousy service while being unaccountable. So I don’t weep for those cuts in the abstract

In 30+ years of reporting the bulk of my stories about the Executive Branch involve obscene waste, unaccountability, secrecy, ineffectuality. Our taxes paid for Iraq and Afghan wars, NSA taps, the F-35, bank bailouts, and other disasters - meanwhile basic infrastructure sucks.
