@Interradeserta @elonmusk The “Republican” party was originally a third party called the Anti-Nebraska party, Northern Whigs and anti-slavery northern Democrats formed a coalition that they renamed the Republican Party that elected Lincoln on 1860.

@annlillianbond @elonmusk In 1854, the Republican Party emerged to combat the expansion of slavery into western territories after the passing of the Kansas–Nebraska Act. After the Civil War black former slaves joined the GOP very little support from white Southerners who predominantly backed the Democrats

@Interradeserta @elonmusk One third party did succeed. It was the Anti-Nebraska Party and within a few years its name was changed to the Republican Party. Ring a bell?

@elonmusk No, third parties have never succeeded in America. 🇺🇸

Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?

The statement 'Interesting' is a brief and neutral response to a historical discussion about the origins of the Republican Party. It does not engage substantively with the public issue being discussed, which is the history and impact of political parties in America.
