@RonDeSantis A president could enforce a balanced budget by refusing to sign a debt limit increase and then using his discretion to cut 40% (the deficit) from the budget. Drastic, and would take some juggling not to default on any obligations, but it sure would incentivize congress to act.

Great but why hasn’t Congress heeded that advice? And even if it did for once what is stopping the next Congress from simply unwinding any reforms?

It’s a structural problem.

@RonDeSantis Sorry Ron you are making this too hard. First just fund the things the Constitution allows in the enumerated powers. Second spend less then the tax income of the Government. Most of us balance our budgets without needing a law or amendment.
