Imagine seeing BERT to GPT-2 to GPT-3 to chatGPT to GPT-4 and thinking we’re at a plateau because “it’s been a year”. Absolutely insane.

No, we are not currently in a period of exponential growth.

GPT-4 is over a year old; nothing has exponentially improved upon it, despite an entire extremely well-capitalized industry trying.

There was a great jump; now there is perhaps a plateau.

The statement is a personal challenge rather than a substantive contribution to the discussion on AI progress. It does not engage with the broader public discourse on technology and society.
