@GaryMarcus I may be misinterpreting what you mean by symbols. Symbols imply language in my mind but bees can generalize without language. The brain receives spikes that are meaningful but it has no idea what they mean since they all look alike. Meaning is learned from their relative timing.

@GaryMarcus I have my doubts about Neurosymbolic AI but your list amounts to saying that AGI can't be solved without solving intelligence.

We need a revolutionary solution for perceptual generalization (compositionality) before symbols can even enter the picture.

If someone can build trustworthy AI without all four of these I will publicly acknowledge that I got something deeply wrong.

(Conversely, if this turns out to be the precise recipe, I hope I will get a pat on the back.)

• Neurosymbolic hybrid AI
• Large-scale knowledge, with an innate core
• Better reasoning
• Explicit, dynamically updatable cognitive models
