using 'new input/output channels' and implementing new 'use cases' is the very definition of a transformative tech.

@cichuck @GaryMarcus Plateauing? Yes. Based on the lack of any kind of exponential progress. 1) no new paradigms beyond LLMs and multimodal derivatives, 2) they still make the same fundamental inference errors, 3) only progress is linear, with new input/output channels and use cases. Where's GPT5?

At TED in 2023, Gary and I were among the only folks suggesting that we'd see plateauing AI progress in 2024. Many scoffed at the notion... yet, here we are. But if you take the time to understand the challenges and the facts, it's not hard to see why this is the case.
