@GaryMarcus So BitLocker as mentioned is drive level encryption. You log in, the drive is unlocked (so you can use it). The only reason it’s not previously been encrypted by default is the fairly heavy performance hit.

@Arantor Don’t use windows - can you explain what one would have to do, whether an average user could do so etc? Not having that protection by default seems foolish.

@GaryMarcus I mean, it *is* encrypted - with BitLocker, if you have that set up. (Which, to be fair, is one of the only sensible criteria Win11 had for the updated TPM reqs, to push BitLocker everywhere)

But, uh, yeah.

Turns out Microsoft’s AI Recall feature is not very secure. “The database is unencrypted. It’s all plain text.”

So homie built a tool to extract it all and called it ‘Total Recall’ 😂
