I remember going to visit him at his tiny office when he was a nobody state rep and listening to him detail the political dynamics of the state legislature & thinking to myself, at age 19/20, “who is this guy? This is different.” (I was a local freelance reporter at the time.)

I’ve known Shapiro since I was in HS 20 years ago in PA. Have watched him rise from state rep to deputy state house speaker to county gov to AG to gov. Known for being calm, methodical behind scenes but comfortable with turning up the rhetorical heat when politically necessary.
