The laugh-out-loud factor with Russian writers is amazing. Gogol, Saltykov-Schedrin, Bulgakov, Yuri Olesha, Zoschenko, Ilf/Petrov, Voinovich, Dovlatov… even some of the non-comic writers are sort of funny by accident.
