In truth, I think the Republicans have only made two mistakes in this campaign (both of which have cost them dearly):
1. Sticking with Vance
2. Sticking with Trump
Things are otherwise are going great!

The statement 'thank god! or darwin!' is a lighthearted, conversational reply and does not substantively engage with the public issues or policies discussed in the original conversation. It does not contribute to the civic dialogue or address societal issues in a meaningful way.
