The important reality that AI enthusiasts like Bill Gates and @DeryaTR_ are not reckoning with is that there many key biological problems that even AlphaFold can’t solve, such as reliably predicting interactions between proteins and ligands:

@uber__oso @GaryMarcus The models still predict protein folding well - most folded domains are similar to what’s in the training data. But they have problems predicting interactions between proteins and ligands, probably because flexibility allows proteins to interact in many different ways.
