@GaryMarcus @Shoshi_No_Taxes I've heard OpenAI is planning for AGI, possibly this year. Should we assume that they will plug ChatGPT into driverless taxis to bridge those limitations? That would pull the timelines forward!

@Shoshi_No_Taxes Brin was off by 8 and counting, and so far they function reasonably well (still with some remote intervention) in around 1% of American cities, none of the ones with routinely bad weather, etc.

his promise definitely won鈥檛 come in at 5-10 delayed. It will be more than that.

@GaryMarcus If they're off by 5-10 years, similar to your example, then its worth thinking about.

AGI 2027, my eye. Folks, we have seen this movie before. Don鈥檛 get taken a second time.

In 2012 Google's cofounder Sergey Brin promised that self-driving cars would be available for everyone within five years.

Unless you live in SF, Phoenix, LA, or a handful of other cities,

The statement is a lighthearted and humorous response to a discussion about the development and deployment of AGI and self-driving cars. It does not engage substantively with the public issues being discussed, such as the technological and societal implications of AGI and autonomous vehicles.
