@tedcruz Truman did it because the building was deemed unsafe by engineers. He did not change the character of the White House. And constructing a rose garden is a world of difference from a 90,000 square foot edifice the dwarfs in size the original structure.

Does it “break your heart” that, in 1948, Harry Truman undertook a “total reconstruction” of the White House’s interior, preserving only its exterior walls?

Or, in 1962, when your uncle JFK constructed the modern Rose Garden?

Or is it just Trump that your lament applies to?

This breaks my heart and it infuriates me. Hundreds of millions of dollars to build a new ballroom. Good god.
