@BruceOlsen @GaryMarcus I agree. The main point of autonomous vehicles is to eliminate the traffic fatalities on the road. It's about 40k a year in the US alone. The number of serious injuries is much higher. If AVs could reduce the number of US fatalities to 4k, would that be considered enough?

@GaryMarcus @TrueAIHound And it has to be superior to humans because Tesla is selling it. The crappy driver who hits me may have some insurance, but Tesla has deep pockets: it's about business, not technology.

@GaryMarcus @TrueAIHound 5 nines availability (approx. 5 minutes per year) is unacceptable in IT circles; for FSD even 6 nines (30 seconds per year) is probably unacceptable.

@TrueAIHound lots are positive. but it’s a numbers things. if you have a million cars, and 99% of them are fine 99% of the time, you have serious problems.

@GaryMarcus Not all the reports on the latest update are negative. I was impressed by some of the videos I've seen. Then it occurred to me that Tesla's system does have a limited ability to generalize. The real time mapping algorithm can generalize borders, position, distance, velocity, etc.
