@GaryMarcus @BillGates I keep wondering if, or when, we might eventually get negative results, similar to the Incompleteness Theorems or the Halting Problem, that articulate some fundamental trade-off between different AI architectures, for example purely textual vs symbolic 馃

G枚del/Turing proved that Hilbert's goal to algorithmically mechanize mathematics is impossible, but now it's like we're trying to heuristically mechanize the production of all knowledge through generative AI.

Completely agree! We might see two more useful rounds of scaling, but after that we will need new techniques.

Add @billgates to list of people who see that scale is not enough.

& we need metacognition; don鈥檛 think we can get there without bringing symbols back in the mix.
