@jaketapper Counterpoint: Nothing "hurts" billionaires. But if billionaires are going to use newspapers as their toy then we should smash their toys.

Perhaps the subscription you cancel can be redeployed to some OTHER publication that is NOT owned by people who capitulate to fascists.

Canceling a newspaper subscription helps politicians who don’t want oversight, does nothing to hurt the billionaires who own the newspapers and make decisions with which you may disagree, and will result in fewer journalists trying to hold the powerful to account.

The statement is a lighthearted and personal message that does not engage with the public discourse about media ownership and journalism discussed in the preceding conversation. It shifts the focus from the serious debate to a personal anecdote about a film made in 1978, which is unrelated to the public issues being discussed.
