@TheZvi There are two claims: 1) OpenAI announced before the closing party, 2) OpenAI didn't wait a week.

Claim 1 was misquoted by Mikhail as "Closing ceremony". The closing ceremony started at 4pm, the closing party started at 6pm, and OpenAI made the announcement at 5:50pm.

Someone from OpenAI contacted me and informed me the claim is mistaken, they actually did wait until after the closing ceremony for exactly this reason.

Debating how I feel about this - I was going to cover the IMO result tomorrow but if this is true then there's a strong argument to wait until Google's results are verified so as not to reward defection. Thoughts?
