@GaryMarcus They take it, then. I also appreciate that you draw attention to a different horn of the danger which is the utter untrustworthiness and lies of the tech companies. Pointing out hype does have the side effect of allowing people to dismiss the danger, tho.

Even tho I do think he gives people license to ignore the problem, if you don’t want what @GaryMarcus is saying to be true then you and I have a deeper division. I want to be saved from dangerously powerful AI, at least until another paradigm is developed, one way or another.

I’m suspicious that a lot of x-risk people hate @GaryMarcus bc they want AI to be powerful instead of bc they are concerned about people underestimating the threat.
