@GaryMarcus Not to mention the fact that OpenAI did start as a non-profit. There aren’t many good case studies for a company like OpenAI as far as I know, but the exodus of multiple of their top safety people (and some at personal cost) makes me pretty concerned.

@GaryMarcus It seems like a mistake to me to only think of OpenAI through the common lens of whatever it takes to make more $$$.

Is that one possible explanation? Yes.

But there’s also a strange, quasi-religious fervor to OpenAI’s culture & others that can’t be completely discounted.…

Apple isn’t paying OpenAI for ChatGPT - doesn’t that tell you a lot?

If OpenAI truly had AGI, they wouldn’t be giving it to Apple for free.
